BENEVOLENCE:

Assigned Elder:  Ben Brigham

Mission:  The Benevolence program at the Church of Christ at Wheless Lane is designed to help those who find themselves in need of assistance.  Romans 12:13 (NIV) says, " Share with God's people who are in need.  Practice hospitality."  The church has a charge to help God's people who are in need.  The benevolence program is designed to carry out this charge.  Jesus also says, if we would be perfect, give to the poor (Matthew 19:21).  Although these charges are for us individually we too as a body of Christ have the same charge.

Purpose:  Help those who are in need of assistance: Food, Clothing, or Shelter.  Help brothers and sisters of the Church with spiritual and physical assistance.  Examples: moving, needing a ride to work, help with maintenance around the house, and financial counseling.

  • Food And Pantry:

Mission:  Keep the pantry stocked with needed supplies and  provide food list for church activities.

Purpose: Coordinate the planning, clean up, and serving of food and drinks for total membership of special activities of the church. This does not include special events of different groups, such as the youth, young married couples, etc.

BUILDING AND GROUNDS:

Mission:  The mission is to see that the congregation has a comfortable facility to worship and conduct church meetings.

Mission: Purpose:   The purpose of the building committee is to study, plan. implement and oversee the construction and maintenance of the church. We coordinate the physical maintenance of the church building to accommodate its members.  The committee meets regularly to discuss issues pertaining to the building and grounds of the Wheless Lane Church.  The committee coordinates all activities pertaining to maintenance, renovation, and modification of the building complex and grounds.  The committee also should be consulted when non-regular events at the church are scheduled.  This is for health and safety issues.  It also helps the committee to schedule maintenance activities.

COLLEGE GROUPS:

Mission: Create a total program at Wheless Lane for college students who are away from home to nurture their spiritual needs.  Create a spiritual haven for college students while they are away from home.

Purpose:  Create data base of college students who will be coming to Austin.  Contact congregations in key cities for students. Create Church Web page.  Communicate with student/parents in their cities.  Contact student when he/she arrives in Austin.  See that students has transportation to building.  Receive student at building.  Create college level classes. Create activities for college students.   Follow through mentoring student.

EDUCATION :

Assigned Elder:  Paul Noel

Mission: To educate Christians in the Word of God.

Purpose: To develop classes that will educate members of the congregation in the Word of God.  Classes are taught Sunday morning, Wednesday night, or as requested.

Mission:  To facilitate the study of God's word for all ages

Purpose:

  • Men's Training:

Mission: To ensure that the worship services are conducted decently and in order.

Purpose: To train the brethren in the order of service.

  • Ministers Training Class:

Mission: To train and prepare ministers of the Gospel

Purpose: To train ministers in sermon preparation and speaking techniques.  The class also covers the study of bible hermeneutics and exegesis.

EVANGELISM:

Mission: Then Jesus came to them and said, " All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded, and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.  Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

Purpose: To introduce as many souls as possible to Christ, his Truth, and his Church. Theme for 2005  "Now Is The Acceptable Time" ....II Corinthians 6:1-2  & Romans 13:11

  • Evangelism Training Class:

 Mission: To teach members of the congregation how to educate others on the scriptures

Purpose: To show members how to conduct bible studies, how to answer commonly asked biblical questions and make contact with potential students

  • Gospel Meeting:

Assigned Elder:  Ben Brigham

Ministers:  James Thompson

Mission: To educate and revive the congregation. To evangelize and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Purpose: To bring in dynamic speakers to inform, revive, and challenge the congregation to work the works of  God.

  • Bible Outreach Program:

Mission: Set-up and carry out bible studies with persons who are non-members of the Church of Christ

Purpose: To introduce as many souls as possible to Christ, his Truth, and his Church.

Mission: To mail a  free Thirteen Lesson Bible Correspondence Course, including a stamped envelope to mail lessons back, to anyone with the desire to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and gain a better understanding of His word and His will.

Purpose: To journey through scriptures from the beginning of time from the fall of mankind, to God's redemptive plan, the gift of salvation, and the promise of eternal life. The course comes in its entirety from God's Word and proven through scriptures in each lesson so that you may increase in knowledge and enlighten your understanding as you are guided through the treasures of God's Divine Word.

FINANCE:

Deacon:  Sam Roberts  Mission: Prepare annual church budget and funds disbursement.

Purpose:  To prepare church budget for the various programs of the church.  Review past budget histories and project future financial revenue growth. Pay outstanding bills.

FELLOWSHIP:

  • Church Picnic:

        Assigned Elder: Ben Brigham

Mission: Annual gathering at a local park to cook and fellowship with one another.

Purpose: To fellowship with each other. Give members the opportunity to interact with each other in an open and informal environment

  • Monthly Evangelism Fellowship:

Assigned Elder: Ben Brigham

Mission: Expose as many visitors to the Gospel of Christ by inviting them to come worship with us, to share a common meal with us, and to fellowship with us.

Purpose: To evangelize visitors by exposing them to the word of God, Christian hospitality, and fellowship.  To strengthen and bond membership by sharing common meals and fellowship.

  • Ladies' Fellowship and Bible Study:

Assigned Elder:  Paul Noel

Mission: Provide lessons for spiritual enrichment for the ladies of the congregation.

Purpose: Provide a forum for the ladies of the congregation to organize spiritual fellowship activities, bible studies, Ladies' retreats, and Ladies' Day Seminars. Gives the Sisters the opportunity to fellowship and create a closer relationship among the sisters.

  • Men's Retreat:

Mission: Plan Activities for upcoming year.

Purpose:  Provide a forum to allow the brethren to plan and discuss activities for the  coming year.  Allow brethren the opportunity to fellowship on an informal  environment.  It is also to train our young men in the planning of the church.

  • Married Couples Fellowship:

Mission: Provide an avenue for fellowship, support and growth among the young, married couples of the congregation

Purpose: Schedule Activities, classes, support and promote a growth and well being among the young married couples.

  • Singles Ministry:

    Assigned Elder: Ben Brigham

    Deacon: Sam Roberts

    Mission: To encourage and build strong Christian relationships through fellowship, study, and service.

    Purpose: To encourage fellowship by getting together regularly and meeting other Christian single's groups, too strengthen study by way of special classes, programs, and seminars, and to provide service to the Wheless Lane congregation and the community.

     

  • Season Saints Ministry:

    Assigned Elder: Ben Brigham

Mission:  To enrich the lives of others by focusing on the good that the seniors can do to help motivate, encourage, and enhance the lives of others.

Purpose:  To encourage and bond with each other. To reach out to others, sick, and shut-in,

ORDER OF SERVICE:

Mission: God is not the author of confusion, also Paul gives instruction on how to behave in the house of God.  Thus, it is our mission to set up the orderly procedure for worshipping each week.

Purpose: Our purpose is to see that all responsibility areas are assigned for conduction the worship services.  A short meeting is held immediately before each worship service.  The minister makes sure each brother is present for fulfilling his pre assigned duty.

MEMBERSHIP CONCERNS:

Assigned Elder: Ben Brigham

Mission: To let members know that they are important. We are concerned about them. We miss them when they are not with us. We have a Christian brotherly love for them. When you care for someone you must check on them when they absent themselves continually, without giving notice of why they are absent. 

Purpose: Make contact with members by sending cards or making phone calls to those who request prayers for situations, repentance of sins, and sickness. Also contacting members who are absent from worship services 3 consecutive weeks without letting their whereabouts be known. We also remember birthdays of those listed in the church directory. Let us get acquainted here on earth, at Wheless Lane. Most important, encourage members to be concerned and care about each other. When someone is absent time and time again, call then and inquire about their well being. With total involvement of all the members, we will help each other as we travel the road toward heaven. Members must not wait until they reach heaven in order to become acquainted.

  • Visitation:

Mission: To visit the sick and shut in.

Purpose: To visit members of the church who are not able to attend worship services.

  • Welcoming:

Assigned Elder: Ben Brigham 

Minister: Dannie Archie

Mission: Welcome each visitor as they arrive and leave our worship services and keep an updated database of visitor's information and send out follow up letters.

Purpose: To encourage hospitality and exhibit love by welcoming members and each visitors that attends services. To encourage each visitor to return by showing joy of their presence.

  • Special Request for Communion:

        Assigned Elder: Ben Brigham 

        Mission: To carry communion to the sick and shut-in members, upon special request.

Purpose: Team members will carry communion to the sick and shut-in members, who are unable to assemble with the saints during normal worship services.  This service is not intended for those members who seldom attend worship services.

  • Special Transportation:

Assigned Elder: Ben Brigham 

Mission: Transportation for mostly out of town visitors. All members of the congregation who have motor vehicles and adequate space available within their vehicles, will be asked to provide transportation, if the person requesting transportation  is near where the members live.

Purpose: To arrange for members of the Wheless Lane Church of Christ to pick up visitors, who make special request for transportation to attend our services.

Mission: Record and file important church related materials and  members information.

Purpose: Record information from various activities of the church.  Ensure that an electronic or hard copy exists for the records.

  • Church Directory:

Mission: To ensure that members are able to communicate with each other.

Purpose: To create an updated directory of names, addresses, phone numbers, and birthdays so members can contact one another.

  • Membership Database:

Mission: To have accessible at all times to all church data on members and activities of the church.

Mission: The Wheless Lane Youth Ministry seeks to develop and nurture the church's youth by building a Christian commitment, providing a friendly and open atmosphere for them to understand God's Word, develop Christian friendships, serve others according to Christ's will, and apply faith to their daily lives. The Youth ministry will help them grow into strong and mature Christians, by providing activities that encourage spiritual growth.

Purpose: To expose students to God's love, equip them to exalt God, enjoy other Christians, and experience the good of the ministry to spiritually enrich their lives.

COMMUNION AND BAPTISM:

Mission: Prepare communion trays and keep baptism towels and garments clean and in good repair.

Purpose: To support morning and evening worship services and to be prepared for baptisms.
